MEDIATION SERVICES

As a mediator, I assist those in conflict to find ways to resolve the conflict and move on with their lives. I believe that conflict happens when two or more parties stop communicating and start assuming what the other is saying. Often, couples, neighbors, landlords and tenants just need to sit down and talk about their viewpoint on the conflict and to really hear the other person’s viewpoint.

It is much easier to do this with a trained mediator who can listen, help clarify, explore options and assist the participants to find their own solutions. As a mediator, I never give advice or my opinion. You know your situation and what will work best for you. My job is to assist you in finding that solution. Often parties want to go to court to have a judge decide who is “right” and who is “wrong”. The judge has to make her decision based on the law. However, in mediation, you can come up with creative solutions that work for you. The mediation process is private, unlike court, where all proceedings are open to the public.

I have been a volunteer and paid mediator for five years and have participated in divorce, child custody, landlord/tenant, consumer/merchant, civil rights and Temporary Restraining Order mediations. I have assisted many parties to resolve their issues and to stay out of the court system.
